Trending places to visit in 2017

Wanting to experience something a little different this year? We’ve put together a few suggestions of places that are likely to provide you with that “in 2017 we traveled to…” anecdote.

Festival of colour, Goa March 2017

Holi is the most colourful festival in the world. People gather on the streets to playfully Drench each other in water and throw a rainbow of coloured power. The festival signifies the end of winter and the beginning of spring, the colours convey different messages and feelings. And that’s not all. There’s a huge vibrancy from the energetic drum beats and parades that fill streets. Holi takes places throughout India, but in Goa it’s known as Shigmo, and at the best place to be fore live music and big DJ names.

Beyond festival, Morocco 3-6 March 2017

Not keen on the traditional cold muddy British festival? How about the Sarhara desert instead? Beyond festival is all about experiencing an adventure of a lifetime with a wide variety of activities including sandboarding, dune climbing, desert glamping, disco dodge ball to camel convoy. You will also get a real taste of Moroccan food, cocktails and live music.

Cappadox, Turkey, 18-21 May 2017

Music, contemporary art exhibitions, gastronomy and yoga – Cappadox takes place in Cappodocia, an area of Turkey known for its natural beauty and being a world heritage site. The immersive festival ticks off everything from classical music, inspiring talks, film screenings, meditation workshops, nature walks and cycle tours, all set within magnificent caves. The musicians featured at this festival are usually local or international acts with a Turkish connection. It’s the perfect festival for getting back to nature and this years theme “ways out of the world” promise to excite the mind.

Frieze Art Fair, New York, 5-7 May 2017

Traveling to New York during the Frieze Art Fair is a must for any culture vultures. It brings together the world’s leading galleries, art shows and talks – all under one roof. With previous fairs including live donkeys, melting carpets, soundscapes, a Donald Trump ventriloquism show and some Damien Hirst number – it’s so much more than your usual trip to the local art gallery and as a bonus you’ll get a hard to beat view over Manhattan. Chinese New Year Hong Kong, 28th January 2017 You’ve certainly heard of the Chinese New Year before but Hong Kong will change you’re traditional views of lanterns and dragons you might have seen. They do things a little different to mainland china. The streets come alive with live music, parades, fireworks and action-packed horse riding. No wonder it’s been listed as one of Forbes’ 10 best festivals in the world.

Loy Krathong Thailand, 4th November 2017

Loy Krathong, or ‘festival of floating lead cups’, has been celebrated for over 6,000 years. The Krathong is made from a banana tree trunk, which is then decorated with folded banana leaves and flowers. You need buy one to take part, and once you’ve got yours head straight to the waterside. Then, light a candle or incense stick and make a wish before setting your Krathong, and your wish, to float away.
